Research program aims to help smokers quit

UB researchers are seeking participants for a free clinical research program that aims to make it easier for smokers to quit the habit — for good.

The approach of the EvarQuit program combines expertise in both medicine and health behavior, researchers say.

The goal of the program is to determine if the medication Chantix (varenicline) works better for more people if they take it for a few extra weeks before quitting.

Participants will receive free Chantix for one to four weeks before quitting, as well as assistance in developing a plan for quitting — and staying quit. Participants also will be compensated for their time.
