The recently concluded Faculty and Staff Campaign, an annual effort to encourage UB faculty and staff to give to the university, has surpassed its participation and dollar amount goals.

Run by the Office of Annual Giving in the Division of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement, the six-week campaign asked faculty and staff to give to the UB Fund, an annual fund introduced in 2016 to support the student experience.

The campaign, held Feb. 27 to April 7, saw a 5.6 percent increase in the number of individual faculty and staff donors, from 480 in 2016 to 507 in 2017, and a 32 percent increase in the amount raised, from $77,057 in 2016 to $102,019 (as of April 15).

“We are extremely pleased with the results,” says Geoffrey Bartlett, assistant vice president for annual giving. “This kind of participation by our faculty and staff shows they are interested in making a difference in the lives of our students.”

In support of the student experience, the UB Fund is used to recruit world-class professors, distinguished scholars and innovative researchers, and support experiential learning programs, such as study abroad, internships, faculty-mentored research, volunteering and clinical experiences; entrepreneurship opportunities; new technology; collaborative learning spaces; and assistance for student emergencies.

The ultimate outcome will likely be higher, Bartlett notes, as pledges and payroll deductions continue to be processed until the end of the fiscal year on July 30.
