‘Bridge’ lectures underway at Newman Center

Nancy Campbell-Heider, associate professor and chair of the Department of Family, Community and Health Systems Sciences in the School of Nursing, will discuss “Combating the Opioid Epidemic in Young Adults” in the next installment of the Bridge Lecture Series on June 29.

Campbell-Heider’s talk is part of the annual summer lecture series sponsored by the UB Newman Center.

The aim of the series, now in its 14th year, is to connect the UB family with the surrounding community.

All talks, which are free and open to the public, are held at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Newman Center, 495 Skinnersville Road across from the Creekside Village apartments on the North Campus. The remainder of the schedule:

  • July 6: Kim Griswold, associate professor of family medicine, psychiatry and public health and health professions, and medical director for the Center for Survivors of Torture, “Evaluating Asylum Seekers.”
  • July 13: Kristen A. Cercone, clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and a licensed psychologist at Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, “Parenting — Now versus Then: Trends and Stressors.”
  • July 20: Michelle Benson, associate professor of political science, “The Pros & Cons of UN Peacekeeping and Intervention in Civil Wars.”
  • July 27: Blair Brown-Lipsitz, head coach, UB women’s volleyball team, “The Competitive Advantage.”
  • Aug. 3: Ashima Krishna, assistant professor of urban and regional planning, “Challenges in Reusing Religious Structures Not in Use: The Case of the Hindu Temples in India.”
  • Aug. 10: Msgr. J. Patrick Keleher, director, UB Newman Center, “Catholics in Good Standing: What does that Mean Today?”
