Accessing Using Remote App

Find out the requirement for running RemoteApp and see how to connect.

My Virtual Computing Lab is available for use by current UB students, as well as faculty and staff paid by UB. It is not available for use by retirees, alumni or employees paid by sources other than UB.


Not all software available in My Virtual Computing Lab is accessible using Remote App. See if the software you need is available through Remote App. To use some sofware, you must use Remote Desktop instead.

Use Internet Explorer 6 or above to connect to My Virtual Computing Lab. After logging in with your UBITName and password, you'll be able to use many of the professional software titles available in UB's computing sites. Save work to your UBfs Myfiles or any connected drives, and print to any connected printer.

RemoteApp works only with Internet Explorer, not Firefox, Chrome, Safari or any other browser. It provides access to the basic programs, but not all accessory programs or help documentation.


To run RemoteApp, you need:

  • Browser: IE6 or above with ActiveX Control enabled (will not work with Firefox, Chrome, Safari or any other browser)
  • Operating System: Windows 7 or Vista
  • On-campus: A secure connection using wired ResNet, an OpenPort or UB Secure Wi-Fi
  • Off-campus: Connect using AnyConnect


If you are off campus, you must run Cisco AnyConnect software before you connect to My Virtual Computing Lab.


  1. In IE6 or above, browse to (link opens in a new window).
  2. On this new page, enter the following information:
    • Domain\user name: ad\UBITName (where UBITName is your UBITName)
    • Password: your password
    • Select private or public computer
  3. Click Sign in.
