Office Professional Plus 2013: Windows Download for Personally-Owned Computers

Use Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013, a productivity suite of software designed for Windows computers, for editing documents, creating spreadsheets, making computer slide shows, reading email and more.

Note: This software can be downloaded multiple times and does not limit the number of installations.


This software is available to:

  • Employees on volunteer appointments (paid by someone other than UB)

System Requirements

  • Processor: 1 Ghz or faster x86 processor or x64-bit processor with SSE2 instruction set
  • Memory (RAM): 1 GB Ram (32-bit); 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
  • Hard Disk: 3.0 GB available
  • Display: Graphics hardware acceleration requires a DirectX10 graphics card and a 1024 x 576 or higher resolution monitor.

Office 2013 runs on 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows operating systems. When you run Office 2013 32-bit on a 64-bit version of a Windows operating system, the program runs in the 32-bit layer of the Windows operating system. Here are supported Windows operating systems on which you can run Office 2013 32-bit and 64-bit programs.

See if your PC is running the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows, then determine the version of Office you need:

Office 2013 32-bit

Office 2013 64-bit

*Windows Server 2008 R2 is available only in 64-bit architecture

No support is provided for side-by-side installations of 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Office. For example, there is no support for side-by-side installations of Office 2010 32-bit with Office 2013 64-bit, or for Excel 2010 64-bit and Word 2013 32-bit.

Lync Server 2013 is available only in a 64-bit edition, which requires hardware and a 64-bit edition of the Windows Server operating system. A 32-bit edition of Lync Server 2013 is not available with this release.

  • Browser: Internet Explorer 8, 9, or 10; Mozilla Firefox 10.x or a later version; Apple Safari 5; or Google Chrome 17.x.
  • .Net version: 3.5, 4.0, or 4.5
  • Multi-touch: A touch-enabled device is required to use any multi-touch functionality. But, all features and functionality are always available by using a keyboard, mouse, or other standard or accessible input device. Note that new touch features are optimized for use with Windows 8.
  • Addiitional requirements and considerations: Some functionality may vary, based on the system configuration. Some features may requrire addition or advanced hardware or server connectivity.

Work at Home Acknowledgment

This acceptance form is valid for the Microsoft software products you intend to download, which shall be referred to collectively herein as the “Software”. Software is made available to you because The State University of New York at Buffalo (UB) has purchased license coverage for the Software through its Microsoft Campus Subscription Enrollment effective October 1, 2010. UB is ordering the right for you to use the Software for Work-related purposes at home under its Microsoft Campus Subscription Enrollment. You are not licensed to use the Software at home for personal purposes. You do not own the license, rather you are authorized to use the Software pursuant to the terms and conditions of the licensing agreement. You will be required to remove the Software from your home machine immediately if UB decides to no longer participate, or earlier if your UB employment ends. Please note that non-knowledge workers such as maintenance, groundskeepers, cafeteria and mailroom, etc. are ineligible for Work at Home rights if they were not included in the Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) employee calculation for UB.

You will adhere to the following policies:

  • Read and abide by the license agreement(s) associated with this Software. Understand that Microsoft provides no technical support in association with your work-at-home use.
  • Understand the minimum specifications to run the Software are listed at Microsoft's Website.
  • Remove the Software from your home machine immediately upon the earlier of (a) expiration of the licensed period specified above or (b) the end of your employment with UB.
  • Understand that you are not licensed to use the Software for personal purposes.

Common Questions

Why am I being prompted for a product key?

Remove or Uninstall Office 2010 Trial Versions  or Office 2013 trial versions of Office or versions you installed with a license key before you download and install Office 2013 from UB. Installing over a trial or demo or version licensed with a key causes problems and prompts you for a product key for the UB version.

If I delete a previous version of Office, do my files get deleted?

No, deleting old versions of office does not delete or harm files you produced using Office.

May I download Office more than once?


Can I use Office on a Mac?

Yes. You can download Office for Mac. Additionally, If you are using a Macintosh computer running Boot Camp or running Parallels or VMWare and your computer meets the requirements, you can run Office 2013 on your Mac.

Can I order a physical copy of Office media?

How long can I use Office?

Your Office download will continue to work the entire time you are at UB. When you are no longer a current student, faculty or staff member, you must remove Office from your computer.
