FortiClient VPN: Macintosh Download

Fortinet FortiClient VPN is Virtual Private Network (VPN) software. UBVPN is required to securely connect to UB services from off campus, such as My Virtual Computing Lab and UBfs Myfiles.

UB faculty and staff – please check with your departmental IT support to ensure the Fortinet VPN client is for you. You may need to use the AnyConnect VPN client.

Download FortiClient VPN

FortiClient VPN can be downloaded by UB faculty, staff and students who have paid the Comprehensive fee.

Note: This software can be downloaded multiple times and does not limit the number of downloads.

Installation Instructions

Running Mac OS 10.13 High Sierra or newer?

Enable the FortiClient VPN software extension in macOS Preferences > Security & Privacy 

 Select SSL-VPN For Connection Name, enter UBVPN For Remote Gateway, enter ubvpn.buffalo.edu Set Client Certificate to None For Authentication, select Prompt on login Check customize port and enter 10443 Click Save.
  1. Check the acknowledgement box and click I accept.
  2. Click Configure VPN.
  3. Choose the following settings:
    • Select SSL-VPN
    • For Connection Name, enter UBVPN
    • For Remote Gateway, enter ubvpn.buffalo.edu
    • Set Client Certificate to None
    • For Authentication, select Prompt on login
    • Check customize port and enter 10443
  4. Click Save

Using FortiClient VPN

Requirements for Use

  • You must be located off campus and first establish a connection to the Internet through your Internet Service Provider (ISP), such as Spectrum or Verizon
  • You can run FortiClient from a foreign country, but only if your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is not running a proxy server.
