Vulnerability Checking Tools

One of the most effective ways for you to protect yourself while using the Internet is to make sure your personal equipment is up to date. Fortunately, making sure your personal equipment isn’t vulnerable to hackers isn’t hard to do– there are freely available tools that can take care of it for you.

Vulnerability checking involves proactively identifying security vulnerabilities in a system to determine if and where a system can be exploited and/or threatened. All software, including both the operating system and any installed applications, has the capacity for being vulnerable to a number of attacks such as cross-site scripting, SQL injection or command execution. In order to prevent exploitation, the Information Security Office recommends utilizing tools to automatically look for these vulnerabilities and patch them:
