Find My Computer's IP Address

Finding your computer's IP Address can help us to identify the source of problems. An IP Address takes the form of four series of numbers separated by periods: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Any Computer

Open a Web browser and direct it to whatsmyip.com

Windows 8

  1. Click the Network icon > Network and Internet.
  2. Next to Connections, click on your wireless network's name.
  3. Cllick Details. The IP Address is next to IPv4.

Windows 7

  1. Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.
  2. Under Connection, click View Status.
  3. Click Details.

Macintosh OS X 10.5 and Newer

  1. Select the Apple menu > System Preferences > Network.
  2. Click on the name of your network.

Linux Computers

At a prompt, type ifconfig eth0

UBUnix

At a prompt, type /sbin/ifconfig

The numbers next to Bcast are your IP address.
