Can I plug my VoIP phone into a mini-switch or a hub that was not provisioned by CIT (Computing & Information Technology)?

No, VoIP phones should be plugged directly into the data network wall jack. When a PC is also used, it will be plugged into the PC jack on the VoIP phone. Not complying with this recommendation (such as plugging a phone into a mini-switch or hub) causes problems with location reporting for emergency response, security, power survivability and call quality.
