Any university-owned computer or other electronic equipment that plugs into a wall or has a cord, battery or circuit board can be recycled as part of the University at Buffalo’s environmental conservation program, UB Green.
To arrange for equipment to be taken from your office for recycling by Facilities Moving and Trucking, call Procurement Services at 716-645-2676. The equipment must be assigned a surplus tag in order to be removed. Recycled equipment is collected and consolidated at the Beane Center on the North Campus, then picked up by Maven Technologies.
Before any equipment with disk drives leaves your control, ensure that all sensitive or private data is completely removed from the drives. While making arrangements, you should request that the disk drives be physically destroyed. You will receive a certificate of destruction from Maven Technologies for any drives that are destroyed.
Some electronics contain batteries. University Environmental
Health and Safety maintains battery
recycling drop-off containers on campus. Battery recycling is
separated into two types: alkaline (AAA, AA, C, D and 9-volt) and
rechargeable and sealed lead acid (NiCad, Ni-MH, Lithium Ion,
Mercury, silver button and sealed lead acid.) There are different
recycling methods for each type.
