Connect to HUB with Personal Mac Computer

HUB Administrative Staff: Connect to HUB (for Administrative staff) with your personally owned Mac.

Steps to Connect

  1. Launch the Remote Desktop Connection program (Finder > Applications > Remote Desktop Connection).
  2. In the Computer field, enter
  3. Click Connect
    • A window may pop up asking "Do you trust this remote connection?" Click Connect.
    • A window may pop up alerting you that "The identity of the remote computer cannot be verified." Click Yes.
  4. Check the status bars on your hardware token. When there are a full six bars, enter the 6-digit tokencode displayed on your hardware token.
  5. If you have already set a PIN, skip to step 6. Otherwise, to set your PIN:
    • User namead\UBITName (where UBITName is your UBITName)
    • Passcode: Enter the six-digit tokencode displayed on the fob. Note that the passcode is not your UBIT password.
    1. Click Connect. The New PIN Wizard will start.
      • Enter a new 4 to 8 numeric PIN.
      • Re-enter your new PIN.
    2. Click Finish.
    3. Wait one minute or less for the number on your hardware token to change, then click OK.
  6. Enter the following:
    • In the User name field: ad\UBITName (where UBITName is your UBITName)
    • In the Passcode field: your PIN immediately followed by your tokencode
      • Note that the passcode is not your UBIT password.
      • If you incorrectly enter your PIN and tokencode in the passcode field, you must wait for a new tokencode on your RSA SecurID hardware token (fob) before attempting to authenticate again.
    • If you have several unsuccessful attempts in a row, or if you have not used your hardware token (fob) in a while, you may be asked to enter a tokencode (without the PIN) immediately afterward.
  7. Click the blue arrow, or press Enter.
  8. You will be asked for your "Windows password." Click OK.
  9. Enter your UBIT password in the box labeled Windows password.
  10. Click the blue arrow, or press Enter. You are now connected.

Software Available on the Remote Machine

While in the virtual environment, you have access to several useful programs:

  • Adobe Reader
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft Word
  • Internet Explorer
  • Mozilla Firefox

Exiting the Remote Desktop

There are two ways to leave the remote desktop client:

Logging Off from the remote machine is like logging off your computer. All programs are closed, and unsaved work will be lost.

  1. Click the Windows Start button at the bottom of the window and select Log off.
  2. You will be prompted to save any unsaved work.
  3. The window closes.

Disconnecting from the remote machine means that you close your remote desktop client application, but remain logged in. If you reconnect immediately after you disconnect, you will find that your "session" has been saved: any programs you had open will remain open. HOWEVER, this session will only be saved for 24 hours, after which time all program states and unsaved work will be lost.

  1. Click the red x in the Remote Desktop window in the upper left.
  2. A window appears warning you that you are disconnecting. Click Disconnect.
