Connecting on Campus using UB Secure with Windows Vista

Configure your Windows Vista computer for a secure connection to the UB Network on campus.

Connecting to Wi-Fi on Campus

UB Secure is the recommended access choice for connecting to UB's campus network. Your UBITName and password and all data transmitted from your device to the wireless access point (the campus network) are encrypted.

Create a Windows Vista profile for UB_Secure:

Use UB Secure WiFiSetup instead to configure and stay automatically connected anytime you’re on campus.

Use the manual instructions below only if UB Secure WiFiSetup doesn't work for your device.

If your wireless manager is not the Windows manager, your configuration will vary.

  1. Select Start > Network > Network and Sharing Center.
  2. Select Manage Wireless Networks.
  3. If UB_Wireless is displayed, remove it so you do not automatically connect to this network. (You can add it back later.)
  4. Select Manually Create a Network Profile in the pop-up window.
  5. In the Manually connect to a wireless network screen:
    • Enter UB_Secure for Network Name.
    • Select WPA2-Enterprise in the Security type field.
    • Enter AES for Encryption type.
    • Leave the Security Key/Passphrase field blank.
    • Deselect Start this connection automatically. You can return after completing the setup to activate this setting. Selecting the option now interferes with the setup.
