Connecting on Campus using UB Secure with Windows Intel PRO Set

Configure your Windows Intel PRO Set computer for a secure connection to the UB network on campus.

Connecting to Wi-Fi on Campus

UB Secure is the recommended access choice for connecting to UB's campus network. Your UBITName and password and all data transmitted from your device to the wireless access point (the campus network) are encrypted.

Create a Windows Intel PRO Set profile for UB_Secure:

If Intel PROSet Wireless does not appear in your program list, follow the directions for configuring the Windows XP Wireless manager or the Windows Vista Wireless manager.

If UB_Secure appears in your Found Networks list, highlight UB_Secure and click Connect.

  1. Select Start, then All Programs. Select Intel PROSet Wireless. Click Profiles.
  2. In the Profiles window, click Add. 
  3. Select General Settings from the left menu. Enter UB_Secure for the Profile Name and the Wireless Network Name (SSID). Make sure Network is chosen as the Operating Mode. Click Next.
  4. Select Security Settings from the left menu. Use the drop-down menus to complete the following:
    • Select WPA2 – Enterprise for Network Authentication
    • AES – CCMP for Data Encryption
    • PEAP for Authentication Type
    • In the PEAP User section select MS-CHAP-V2 for Authentication Protocol. Select Prompt each time I connect for User Credentials.
    • Make sure Roaming Identity is left blank.
  5. Click Cisco Options.
  6. (Optional) Check Enable Cisco Compatible Extensions; Enable Radio Management Support should be pre-selected. Check Allow Fast Roaming (CCKM). Click OK. Click Next in the Security Settings window. 
  7. For PEAP Server select Validate Server Certificate. Click OK. 
  8. Highlight UB_Secure and use the arrows on the right side of the Profiles window to move UB_Secure to the top of the  list. Click Connect.
  9. Enter your UBITName for User Name and your UBITName password for Password. Roaming Identity and Domain should be left blank.  
  10. Click OK.
