Connecting on Campus using UB Secure with a BlackBerry without a Data Plan

Configure your BlackBerry device for a secure connection to the UB network on campus.

Connecting to Wi-Fi on Campus

UB Secure is the recommended access choice for UB's Wi-Fi campus network. Your UBITName and password and all data transmitted from your device to the wireless access point (the campus network) are encrypted.

Configure your BlackBerry to connect to UB Secure:

If you have a Data Plan with AT&T, check with your service provider about changing and restoring your TCP settings or accessing your Data Plan after reconfiguring for UB Secure.

  1. Disable TCP:
    • From the home screen, go to Options > Advanced Options > TCP.
    • Leave blank all TCP settings (APN, Username, and Password).
    • Save settings and exit to the home screen.
  2. Select a default browser:
    • Go to Options > Advanced Options > Browser.
    • Make sure you select Wi-Fi Browser as your default browser.
    • Save settings and exit.
  3. From the home screen go to Manage Connections > Set Up Wi-Fi Network > Scan for Networks.
  4. Add UB_Secure. Edit the Wi-Fi by completing the following:
    • Enter UB_Secure (this is case sensitive) for Name.
    • Select UB_Secure for SSID.
    • Select 802.11b/g for Band type.
    • Select PEAP for Security type.
    • Enter your UBITName and password for Username/password.
    • Set CA Certificate: to Entrust.net Secure Server Certificate.
    • Select Inner Link security: AUTO.
    • Select Token: None.
    • Leave blank Server subject and san.
    • Check Automatically obtain IP addr & DNS.
    • Select Allow inter-access point handover: (recommended).
    • Select Prompt before connection: (recommended).
  5. Turn ON Wi-Fi connection.
  6. Scroll to Login to Wi-Fi Hot Spot.
