Connecting to eduroam Wi-Fi

Traveling to other universities? Configure your laptop or mobile device to connect to eduroam, and enjoy access to Wi-Fi and protected UB resources at thousands of participating institutions worldwide.

How to Use the eduroam Wi-Fi Network

UB faculty, staff and students visiting other institutions can enjoy Wi-Fi and UB services as if you were on campus connected through UB Secure Wi-Fi, no guest accounts or VPN clients required.

You can also use eduroam while at UB for secure Wi-Fi access.  

Step 1: Before leaving UB, configure your device. 

Step 2: Go to a participating school.

Thousands of colleges and universities across the U.S. and around the globe participate in eduroam. See if your destination is one of them.

Step 3: Authenticate to eduroam Wi-Fi at the participating school.

Select eduroam from the available Wi-Fi, then log in using your and password. Authentication for UB faculty, staff and students is handled through UB, and provides an encrypted session.

Services You Can Access

With eduroam, you can access the same services at other participating schools as when using UB Secure Wi-Fi back at UB, including:

  • email
  • HUB
  • MyUB
  • My Virtual Computing Lab
  • UB Content Management System (UBCMS)
  • UBfs
  • UBlearns
  • Wings Web hosting

A service may be unavailable if the host school blocks it. See eduroam Policies and Access to Resources, below, for details.

Visiting UB?

Visitors to UB whose schools participate in eduroam can use eduroam Wi-Fi at UB. No need for guest accounts. 

Here's how:

  1. Before you come to UB, follow configuration instructions from your school.
  2. Once at UB, choose eduroam from the list of Wi-Fi networks.
  3. Log in with your institution's username and password.

Need help?

Visitors should contact your school's IT support for help using eduroam at UB, not UB's IT support.

eduroam Policies and Access to Resources

You are bound by the host institution's network and security policies. Some UB services that you access via UB Secure Wi-Fi may not be available with eduroam if it relies on something prohibited by the host school: for example, if a port is blocked at the host school.

Likewise, if you are visiting UB, it is possible services may not be available if they rely on something prohibited or blocked by UB.
