File and Folder Timestamps in UBbox

Learn how the different upload methods affect file and folder timestamps.

What Is a Timestamp?

We often refer to the "date created" and "date modified" times ("timestamps") on files and folders to help us remember when a file was last changed, or to stay organized when collaborating with others. However, when you upload your files to UBbox, the timestamps from your computer may not be preserved depending on the method you use.

File Timestamps

"Modified" timestamp is preserved on files for all upload methods.

"Created" timestamp is preserved when uploading with:

  • Box Drive
  • Sync
  • iPhone
  •  FTP (if the FTP client supports the feature)

"Created" timestamp is NOT preserved when uploading with:

  • Android
  • Web applications
  • embed widgets

What happens instead:

Timestamp is set for the last modified date for the first version and not updated for subsequent versions.

Folder Timestamps

"Created" timestamp is preserved on folders when uploading with:

  • Sync
  • FTP (if the FTP client supports this feature)
  • iPhone

"Created" timestamp is NOT preserved on folders when uploading with:

  • Box Drive
  • Android
  • Web applications
  • embed widgets

What happens instead:

  • In Box Drive, folders opened on the desktop will have a timestamp ofthe last modification or upload. Folders not opened on the desktop will not be updated in Box Drive.
  • In Android, Web applications and embed widgets, timestamp is set for the last modified date for the first version and not updated for subsequent versions.
