Using Your Mobile Device to Read and Send UBmail (Central Email)

Learn how to use a smartphone in conjunction with UBmail (Central Email).

Configuring iOS Devices to Read UBmail (Central Email)

Use your phone's built-in email client to read email after you configure it for UBmail (Central Email).

You can configure any iOS device, including iPhones and iPads, to read your UBMail Powered by Google email.

1. Tap Settings.

2. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

3. Tap Add Account.

4. Tap Other.

5. Tap Add Mail Account.

6. Enter the following:

  • Your first and last name in the Name field
  • Your UBITName@buffalo.edu email address in the Address field
  • Your UBIT password in the Password field
  • A name for the connection, such as UBMail, in the Description field

7. Scroll down. In Incoming Mail Server:

  • Enter imap.buffalo.edu for the Incoming Mail Server Host Name.
  • Enter your UBITName in the Username field.
  • Enter your UBIT password in the Password field.

8. Scroll down. In Outgoing Mail Server:

  • Enter smtp.buffalo.edu for Outgoing Mail Server SMTP.
  • Enter your UBITName in the Username field.
  • Enter your UBIT password in the Password field.

9. Tap Save.

10. Tap Settings. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Tap UBmail or whatever name you gave your UBmail connection.

12. Tap SMTP.

13. Tap smtp.buffalo.edu as the primary server.

15. Verify that the Server Port is set to 465. If not, change it.

16. Click Done.

Using Native Smartphone Clients

To read UBmail (Central Email) with your smartphone’s built-in email client, configure your phone's email client to use UB’s IMAP and SMTP settings:

Incoming (IMAP)

server: imap.buffalo.edu

port: 993

client setting: SSL (Secure Sockets Layer protocol)

Incoming (POP)

Server: pop.buffalo.edu

port: 995

client setting: SSL (Secure Sockets Layer protocol)

Outgoing (SMTP)

server: smtp.buffalo.edu

port: 25

client setting: TLS (Transport Layer Security protocol)

port: 465

client setting: SSL (Secure Sockets Layer protocol)

Directory (LDAP)

ldap.buffalo.edu

Accessing the UBmail (Central Email) Mobile Interface

To read UBmail (Central Email) through your smartphone’s Web browser, log into Mobile UBmail at https://ubmail.buffalo.edu/mail/xhtml.php.
