Outlook for Mac

Outlook, part of the Microsoft Office suite of applications, is an email application that includes extras like a calendar, contact manager and a journal to help you keep a record of email interactions you want to remember.

• Students: Use directions for UBmail Powerd by Google instead.

• Faculty/Staff: Use directions for UBmail Powered by Exchange instead.

Configure Outlook for Mac 2016 for UBmail (Central Email)

Don't Have Outlook 2016 for Macintosh?

Download Microsoft Office 2016 for Macintosh from UB.

  1. Select Finder > Applications > Outlook.
  2. Click the Welcome to Outlook splash screen.
  3. Click Get Started.
  4. Click Start Using Outlook.
  5. Click Add Account.
  6. Click Other Email.
  7. Enter your UBITName followed immediately by @buffalo.edu in the E-mail address field.
  8. Enter your UBITName password in the Password field.
  9. Enter your UBITName in the Username field.
  10. Select IMAP in the Type field.
  11. Enter imap.buffalo.edu in the Incoming Server field.
  12. Select Override default port, then set the number after ithe incoming server (this is the port) to 993.
  13. Select Use SSL to connect (recommended).
  14. Enter smtp.buffalo.edu in the Outgoing server field.
  15. Select Override default port, then set the number after the incoming server (this is the port) to 465.
  16. Select Use SSL to connect (recommended).
  17. Click Add Account.

Configure Outlook for Mac 2011 for UBmail (Central Email) instead

  1. Launch Microsoft Outlook 2011.
  2. Select Tools > Accounts.
  3. Click + in the lower left corner of the pane. Select E-mail.
  4. Enter your UBITName@buffalo.edu email address for E-mail address.
  5. Enter your UBITName password for Password.
  6. Enter your UBITName for User Name.
  7. Enter IMAP for Type.
  8. Enter IMAP.buffalo.edu for Incoming server.
  9. Select Override default port. Enter 993 for Incoming server.
  10. Select Use SSL to connect (recommended).
  11. Enter SMTP.buffalo.edu for Outgoing server (SMTP).
  12. Select Override default port. Enter 465 for Outgoing server.
  13. Select Use SSL to connect.
  14. Click Add Account.
  15. Enter your computer's keychain password if prompted.
