Calendar

Docs

Google Docs lets you create and format documents and work with other people. It includes:

  • Docs (text documents)
  • Sheets (spreadsheets)
  • Slides (presentations)
  • Forms (Web forms)

Drive

Drive is a cloud storage area for your files.  Store 15 GB of videos, photos or documents, and access them from anywhere.  

Hangouts

The Google Hangouts app allows you to make video calls, phone calls or send SMS and Hangouts messages.

Hangouts conversations are synced automatically across devices, so you can start a Hangout on one device, like your computer, and continue on another device, like your phone. 

  • Make video calls: Have face-to-face conversations with up to 9 other people using video calls from Hangouts. 
  • Send SMS and Hangouts messages: You can start a Hangout with just one person or multiple people.
  • Make phone calls: Most phone calls in the U.S. and Canada are free. Check to be sure your destination really is a free call.

Apps Status Dashboard

On occasion, Google apps may unavailable due to maintenance. Google’s Apps Status Dashboard lets you know when apps are experiencing service disruptions or service outages.

Common Questions

Why are my Google Apps are not loading properly?

If your browser is not current, you may notice you cannot add entries to the calendar, drawings and presentations may not display properly, or your email may be displayed in a basic format. To solve this issue, update your browser.

Why won't the SMS feature of my UBmail Powered by Google Calendar not activate on my mobile device?

To activate the SMS feature of Google Apps Calendar, you must have a supported mobile carrier.  Check to see if your mobile carrier is included on UB Gmail Calendar’s list of supported mobile providers.

I want to subscribe to a Google group from my UBmail Powered by Google?

Subscribing to Google groups from your UBmail Powered by Google account is not an option. Open a regular Google account through Google to subscribe to Groups. Use your regular Google account in a different browser than your UBmail Powered by Google session.

Can I create a Google group from my UBmail Powered by Google?

Creating Google groups from your UBmail Powered by Google account is not an option. Open a regular Google account through Google to create Groups. Use your regular Google account in a different browser than your UBmail Powered by Google session.

Can I sync my UBmail Powered by Google calendar to my iCalendar?

No, you cannot sync your UB Google calendar to you iPhone's native calendar app. However, you can sync it on the Google calendar app:

  1. Open  the app store and search google calendar
  2. Select GET and allow full download
  3. Once the download has completed, select OPEN 
  4. You will be asked to add an account, enter your UB email address
  5. After pressing Continue you will be redirected to the UB Login Required page where you should enter your UBITName (the first part of your email before the @buffalo.edu) and password, then select Log In
  6. You will be brought through a quick tutorial of the app. At the end, select Got it and you will be brought to your newly set up calendar  

Do I keep my Google Drive space after I graduate?

Yes, as long as you directly log into your UBmail Powered by Google at least once every 90 days, you retain access to both your UBmail Powered by Google and your Google Drive space.
