Keeping Your Email Account After You Leave UB

Learn whether you can keep your UB email address after you leave employment at UB.

Former Employees (Not Retiring or Alumni)

It is against university policy for former employees to keep their UBmail account after their employment ends, except for UB retirees and UB alumni.

UB Retirees

Prior to retiring, contact your department’s IT support staff to inform them of your pending retirement.

  • You must log into your UBmail account at least once every 90 days to keep it active. Forwarding your UBmail to another email address will not count as logging in to your UBmail.
  • If you fail to log in within 90 days and want to reactivate your UBmail account, contact the UBIT Help Center. They will re-create your UBmail account with the same email address, but none of your previously saved email messages can be recovered.

Former Employees Who Are UB Alumni

You are eligible for UBmail Powered by Google.

Former UB Medical Residents

You are eligible for UBmail Powered by Google.  Submit a ticket and request that your mailbox be changed to UBmail Powered by Google. After your new mailbox is created, move any messages you want to keep to your new mailbox. Former medical residents then follow the rules for UB alumni email.
