Sorting Your Email in Outlook or OWA

Operating System: Macintosh OS X, Windows

Applies To: UB faculty, staff, medical residents, retirees and administrative accounts using Outlook or OWA

Outlook 2010, 2013 or 2016 for Windows

By default, Outlook sorts your messages by date. If you prefer to have them sorted by conversation:

  1. Select View
  2. Check Show as Conversations in the top ribbon

Outlook 2011 or 2016 for Macintosh

By default, Outlook for Mac sorts messages by conversations. If you prefer to have them sorted by date:

Select By Conversations > Date Received

If you don't want to sort by either Date Received or Conversations, you can choose to sort by Attachments, Categories, Date Sent, Flag Status, Folder, From, Priority, Size, Status, Subject or To. 

Outlook Web App (OWA)

By default, Outlook Web Access (OWA) sorts your messages by conversations. If you prefer to have them sorted by date:

Select Conversations by Date > Conversations > Off
