Show Contents of Secondary Mailboxes and Their Shared Folders

Troubleshoot problems accessing folders in a secondary Microsoft Exchange Server mailbox that was added to your Microsoft Outlook profile.

Applies To: UB faculty, staff medical residents, retirees and administrative accounts in cached mode (default setting) if adding a second mailbox into your own account’s profile through the Advanced tab in the Microsoft Exchange dialog box

Symptoms

  • When you view items in the secondary mailbox, new items may not appear or items seem to be missing.
  • Items that you had deleted still appear in the secondary mailbox.
  • Outlook is slow or stops responding.

Instructions

  1. In Outlook, select the File tab.
  2. Click Account Settings > Account Settings.
  3. In the E-mail tab, click your email address.
  4. Click Change at the top, below the tabs.
  5. Deselect the check box for Use Cached Exchange Mode. Click Next.
  6. Click Finish. Click Close. Click OK. This will put you in Online Mode.
  7. Re-launch Outlook.
  8. Repeat step 1 – 4, select More settings, click OK, click the Advanced tab.
  9. Highlight the account in question and de-select the check box for download shared folders under the cached exchange mode settings header. Click OK.
  10. Re-select Use cached Exchange mode, then click Next.
  11. Close and reopen Outlook. You should now see those secondary accounts folders begin to populate with mail.
