Common Questions

Why do my personal folders and subfolders appear empty in Outlook Web Access (OWA)?

Outlook Web Access (OWA) does not display the Personal Folders that appear in Outlook on your UB-owned computer because Personal Folders are located on your computer's hard disk instead of the server. (Personal Folders are not the same as email folders created in your Exchange mailbox. You can use personal folder files to save copies of your email, calendar and contacts, or to move email off the Exchange server.)

Why do secondary mailboxes and their shared folders and subfolders that I have added to my Outlook profile appear empty in Outlook even after FULL control has been given?

When you try to access folders in a secondary Microsoft Exchange Server mailbox that was added to your Microsoft Outlook profile, you may experience random performance problems. For example:

  • When you view items in the secondary mailbox, new items may not appear or items seem to be missing.
  • Items that you had deleted still appear in the secondary mailbox.
  • Slow Outlook performance or random hangs.

Why are client-side rule filters are missing after I changed them using a browser (especially Chrome or any Chrome device, i.e. Chromebook, etc.) through OWA?

We advise that the Outlook client (not OWA) be used to create and manage all client side filter rules. Not doing so can produce unexpected results within your set of configured rules.
