Connect to UBVPN using Fortinet FortiClient VPN

Learn how to access protected UB services from off-campus, including My Virtual Computing Lab, UBfs and UB Voicemail.

Instructions

1. Download and Install FortiClient VPN

Free download for eligible UB students, faculty and staff.

2. Connect to UBVPN and verify with Duo

Select UBVPN in the VPN Name dropdown, enter your UBITName in the Username field, password in the Password field, and click Connect.
  1. Launch FortiClient VPN
  2. From the VPN Name dropdown box, select UBVPN.
  3. Enter your UBITName and password in the Username and Password fields.
  4. Click Connect.
  5. In the Answer field or Passcode field enter one of the following for Duo:
  • Enter the device number (e.g., 1 through 4) or device alias* (e.g., push1, etc.) that corresponds to the verification method you wish to use or
  • A passcode

*Device aliases may appear if you have 4 or more devices enrolled in Duo. You can look up a list of your enrolled devices and their aliases by logging into the Duo Two Step Verification Manager and choosing VPN Device Aliases.

Running Mac OS 10.13 High Sierra or newer?

Enable the FortiClient VPN software extension in macOS Preferences > Security & Privacy 

Disconnecting

When you are done using UBVPN, click Disconnect to end your session.

Common questions

How long may I stay connected to UBVPN?

You may stay connected for up to 24 consecutive hours of use before you are disconnected. Your connection may remain idle for up to 3 consecutive hours before you are disconnected.

Why do I need to confirm with Duo each time?

Duo with VPN does not have "remember me" functionality.
