Registering Media or Gaming Devices

Chromecast may be able to run, but is not guaranteed.

Devices must be registered to connect to UB's network.  The connection will not be encrypted and it requires your UBITName, password and the right SSID to connect to the UB Gaming network.

Do not connect laptops, tablets or other devices with Web browsers to UB Gaming.

To register a media or gaming device connected directly to the network (not using a router):

  1. Connect your gaming or streaming device to the Internet using either:
    • UB Gaming Wi-Fi, or
    • ResNet connection plugged directly to the Ethernet port on the wall using a Cat 5, 5e, 6, 6e Ethernet cable
  2. Connect your already registered computer (not your gaming or streaming device) to the Internet using either:
    • eduroam Wi-Fi, or
    • ResNet connection plugged directly to the Ethernet port on the wall
  3. Open your computer's Web browser. You should automatically be directed to the ResNet Network page. If not, direct your browser to
  4. Go to the ResNet registration screen for Register Media and Gaming Devices and click Start. (If you get a clock, wait a minute and see if the registration page eventually appears.)
  5. Follow the directions listed on the registration screen to register the gaming or streaming device, such as Apple TV or XBox, for ResNet. You can usually find your device's MAC address on your device or its packaging. It may be labeled Ethernet ID (use for ResNet) or Wireless ID (use if device is connected to Wi-Fi).
  6. Disconnect and then reconnect your gaming or streaming device either to UB Gaming Wi-Fi or ResNet wired Ethernet.
