Installing Microsoft Lync 2013 for Windows

Download and learn how to install and maintain Microsoft Lync 2013 for Windows.

Downloading Microsoft Lync 2013

Microsoft Lync is available for download from UB for UB faculty and staff.

Requirements

Uninstall Lync 2010 for Windows before installing the 2013 client.

Microsoft Windows 7 and 8, together with IE 7 through 10 and Mozilla Firefox, and integrated with Office 2010 and 2013 are required in support of the Lync 2013 client.

Choose the Lync version, 32 or 64-bit, using the table below:

Installing Microsoft Lync 2013

1. Run the installer Setup.exe.

2. Accept the Microsoft License Terms and click Continue.

3. Click Install Now for UB configuration.

4. Wait while Lync installs.

5. Click Close when the install completes.

6. Reboot your computer when prompted.

7. Go to All Programs > Microsoft Office 2013 and launch Lync 2013 to complete the installation.

8. Select Use recommended settings and click Accept.

9. If your computer has UBmail powered by Exchange installed and configured with your credentials, the Lync client opens automatically. If not go to next steps.

Not Using UB Email Powered by Exchange?

1. The Lync client will open to a Sign-in screen.

2. Enter your UB email address as your Sign-in address, for example jdoe@buffalo.edu.

3. Enter your UBIT password when prompted.

4. Click Yes to save your Lync sign-in information, or No if you choose to not save it.

5.  You will get an error message, "Can't sign in to Lync." Click OK.

6. Change User name to ad\UBITName (where UBITName is your UBITName) and re-enter your UBIT password. Click Sign in.

Uninstalling Lync 2010 for Windows

1. Log on to your computer as a member of the Administrators group.
2. Click Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features.
3. Click Microsoft Lync 2010.
4. Click Uninstall at the top of the window.

Maintaining Microsoft Lync 2013

If you used UB's default installation that enabled Lync updates, Lync will be updated during the usual Windows Update process.

If you declined the updates option:

  1. Open Windows Updates from the Start Menu.
  2. Click Change Settings on the left.
  3. Check the Microsoft Update box Give me updates for Microsoft products...
