Undergraduate Applicant: Claiming Your UBITName

Before you can connect to the many tools, resources and services on campus, you must use your UBITName, single-use password and person number to claim your UBITName and  make it usable.   

Your UBITName and password are used to access MyUB and other UB services.

International Students, Graduate Students, Faculty and Staff:

Follow the directions for Claiming Your UBITName instead.

Before You Begin

Gather the following information before you begin:

  • Your UBITName and single-use password, which we mailed to you recently
  • Your UB Person Number, located at the bottom of your application acknowledgment letter, which we sent via email a few weeks ago

Can't find your UB Person Number?

Call the UB Office of Admissions Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at 716-645-6900 (local) or 1-888-UB-ADMIT (toll-free).

Claiming Your UBITName

Claim My UBITName
  1. Click Claim My UBITName.
  2. Accept the Computer and Network Use policy, then click Continue.
  3. Enter your UBITName and click Lookup UBITName.
  4. Enter the following:
    • The last four digits of your person number
    • The month of your birth
    • Your single-use password
  5. Click Continue
  6. Provide 3 self-service password reset question answers from the top section and create a question and answer of your own (make sure you check the box next to it.)
  7. Provide a strong password; insecure passwords will be rejected.

Your password must:

  • be different from your last 3 passwords
  • be between 8 and 32 characters in length*
  • contain at least 1 capital letter
  • contain at least 1 lowercase letter
  • contain at least 1 number
  • not have more than 4 numbers in sequence
  • contain at least 1 of the following characters:
    • ~!@#$%^&*()_+=-`{}[]|";'<>,.?/
  • not contain the following characters:
    • :\
*Note: Passwords in excess of 20 characters may not work with some UB systems, for example My Library Card.

Tracking Your Application

After you claim your UBITName you can track your application. Go to MyUB  and log in using your UBITName and new password.
