Claiming Your Account

Before you can access services at UB you must use your UBITName, single-use password, UB Person Number and date of birth to claim your account and make it usable.

Undergraduate Applicants (including Transfer Students):

Follow the As An Undergraduate Applicant, Claiming Your Account directions instead.

  1. Click Claim My Account.
  2. Accept the Computer and Network Use policy, then click Continue.
  3. Enter your UBITName and click Lookup UBITName.
  4. Enter:
    • The last 4 digits of your person number
    • The month of your birth
    • Your single-use password
  5.  Click Continue.
  6. Provide 3 self-service password reset question answers from the top section and create a question and answer of your own (make sure you check the box next to it.)
  7. Provide a strong password. Your password must be secure; insecure passwords will be rejected.

Your password must:

  • be different from your last 3 passwords
  • be between 8 and 32 characters in length
  • contain at least 1 capital letter
  • contain at least 1 lowercase letter
  • contain at least 1 number
  • not have more than 4 numbers in sequence
  • contain at least 1 of the following characters:
    • ~!@#$%^&*()_+=-`{}[]|";'<>,.?/
  • not contain the following characters:
    • :\

Returning to UB

If you are returning to UB, your old UBITName account will be reactivated:

  • You can use your account immediately if you remember your password;  you do not need to claim your account.
  • Email or FAX a copy of government-issued photo ID with your date of birth on it, along with a telephone number where you can be reached, to  the CIT Help Desk if you don't remember your password. You will receive new claim credentials and will need to claim your account again.
