Getting Started With Your Account for University Business

Administrative accounts must be assigned to one owner but more than one person can use it. Each person logs into the same account using the same password.

The UBITName of the administrative account must be no more than 8 characters in length, cannot be the same as any current or former UBITName or Unix group and cannot contain special characters such as $, # and * or the numbers 0 or 1.

To request an administrative account, send email to the CIT Help Desk.

Claim Your Administrative Account

  1. Click Claim My Account.
  2. Accept the Computer and Network Use  policy, then click Continue.
  3. Enter your administrative UBITName and click Lookup UBITName.
  4. Enter the following, provided by the CIT Help Desk when your administrative account was created:
    • Single-use password
    • Secondary token
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Provide 3 self-service password reset question answers from the top section and create a question and answer of your own (make sure you check the box next to it).
  7. Provide a strong password. Your password must be secure; insecure passwords will be rejected.

Your password must:

  • be different from your last 3 passwords
  • be between 8 and 32 characters in length
  • contain at least 1 capital letter
  • contain at least 1 lowercase letter
  • contain at least 1 number
  • not have more than 4 numbers in sequence
  • contain at least 1 of the following characters:
    • ~!@#$%^&*()_+=-`{}[]|";'<>,.?/
  • not contain the following characters:
    • :\
