A Better Balance

By Marissa Malone

The holiday season brings many extra stressors and temptations. To help staff keep them in check, in November 2013 the CIT Professional Development Committee invited community and UB experts to present three informative workshops.

“When the session attendees have a great time and also get the opportunity to learn something useful, we know we’ve succeeded.”

Practical Stress Reduction Tips

The first workshop was November 4, 2013. Yoga instructor Leigh Duffy identified physical stressors and offered practical stress reduction tips. Representative from the UB Employee Assistance Program (EAP) next offered a session of techniques to recognize and handle emotional stress on November 11. Finally, UB’s Wellness & Work/Life Balance team gave great insight on diet challenges and how to maintain body weight and healthy diets throughout the holiday season on November 14.

Fun and Useful

“The workshops were very well received,” said Cathy Ullman, Information Security Analyst and member of the CIT Professional Development Committee. “Everyone who attended gave extremely positive feedback. When the session attendees have a great time and also get the opportunity to learn something useful, we know we’ve succeeded.”

The Professional Development Committee encourages employee growth, cross-unit collaboration and a healthy work/life balance through workshops and guest speakers. Learn more about their past work at their website.
