Path Finder is a web-based interface created to help UB students select general education courses. This new system will track student transcripts and allow academic advisors to track transferred credits and courses that the student must take before graduation.

UB’s Data Center Management Team (DCMT) has made huge strides in increasing long-term security and self-sufficiency by switching from Aperture VISTA, a discontinued third party solution, to OpenDCIM, an open-source solution for data center infrastructure management.

My Virtual Computing Lab, which offers remote access to UB-licensed academic software like MS Office, MATLAB and MS Visual Studio, is now easier to use. UB faculty, staff and students can now access MyVCL via Remote App using a Web browser: just run or install Microsoft Remote Desktop.

To accomplish this, UB’s Information Security Office now provides an on-demand scanning tool to assist each school or department understand its potential vulnerabilities.

Running QuickTime on your Windows machine? UBIT recommends that you uninstall it, as cybersecurity experts discovered two bugs that can leave your machine vulnerable to hackers and viruses. As of April 19, 2016, Apple is no longer supporting or updating QuickTime for Windows.

Adobe has released an emergency patch for its Flash Player to fix a critical vulnerability that was exposed by hackers. If successfully exploited, it could cause devices to crash and allow remote attackers to take control of the affected system.

UB students: when you first toured UB, were you overwhelmed with the size of the university? A group of energetic students may have a solution! In an attempt to create a unique virtual campus, students from all disciplines, inside and outside of UB, are invited to start recreating UB’s campus in Minecraft in a April 23 build-a-thon from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Student Union lobby. Doors open at 8 a.m. for breakfast and registration.

As of April 15, 2016, SUNY business systems will only work on updated Web browsers, such as Chrome 33, Firefox 34, and Internet Explorer 11 and higher in order to keep your personal information safe.

On January 12, 2016, Microsoft will end support for every version of Internet Explorer other than their most recent release. Internet Explorer 11 is the only version that will continue to receive security updates, technical support and compatibility fixes. Microsoft is encouraging customers to upgrade in order to experience a safer and faster browsing experience.

There have been reports of a "Failed to initialize connection subsystem” error received while using Cisco AnyConnect to establish a virtual private network. The errors began with the February 2015 Microsoft security patch.
