You’re closer than ever to UB using your mobile
device.
Launched in January 2013, the new UB Mobile app offers many
useful tools for students, faculty and staff, all designed for the
limited screen on popular smartphones and tablets.
Use the Dining tab to keep track of campus shop and dining hall hours, see menus and specials, and even find nutrition facts. You can also quickly report a lost UB card, keeping someone else’s hands off your information and Campus Cash.
When’s the next UB Bulls game? Click on Athletics to find
their schedules, game scores, and even purchase tickets. Keeping
tabs on other campus happenings is also just a click away under
Events.
UB Mobile will ensure you’ll never get lost on campus again.
Interactive maps of North, South, and Downtown Campus make it easy
to find your way. Didn’t have time to check the shuttle
schedule? Click on Transport to get alerts, schedules, and even
track a bus or shuttle in real time. Looking up staff or
departments has also never been easier: just type a person or
department name into UB Mobile’s search and you’ll find
them instantly.
With over 70% of UB students owning a smartphone, and tablet usage on the rise, the new and improved UB Mobile couldn’t have come at a better time. It’s accessible on any mobile device, from iPhones to Androids, iPads to Kindles. The app is also always kept fresh, regularly updated using UB’s Web Content Management System (UBCMS).
“Mobile computing is perhaps the most rapidly growing area
in information technology today, and not surprisingly represents an
important and growing focus of Computing and Information
Technology, as this release of UB Mobile demonstrates,” said
Tom Furlani, UB’s interim Chief Information Officer.
“Communications today is increasingly digital, which is why
University Communications is leading a university-wide effort to
strengthen our digital communications,” said Joe Brennan,
Associate Vice President for University Communications. “UBIT
has been a key partner in facilitating this digital
transformation.”
To download UB Mobile to your device, visit the Apple App Store
or Android Market to search for “UB Mobile,” or visit

“UB Mobile is only the first phase of our commitment to
mobile computing,” added Furlani. “Additional
applications will be added to UB Mobile.” Learn
more about UB going mobile from our interim CIO.
VITEC Solutions services both personal and department-owned computers and iProduct devices; visit their drop-off depot in the Lockwood 2nd Floor Cybrary or call 800-333-1075. You can also request office pick-up for UB-owned equipment. Track your repair status.
iPhone usage by students is up in every UB school. Students in
the School of Nursing reported the biggest increase this year-
their iPhone usage jumped from 18.6% in 2011 to 45.9% in 2012.
Verizon Wireless is currently the carrier of choice of students at
UB, with 39% using their service.
In 2012, more students reported connecting to Wi-Fi through UB
Secure. 74% reported securely connecting vs. 67% in 2011.
Computing and Information Technology at UB is more than 40 years
old. Here’s a look back at the Interface newsletter from March 1980.
