UB Gaming Wi-Fi Network

Student using small video game

Published April 2, 2013

UB Gaming is a new Wi-Fi network (SSID) available on campus.

What's UB Gaming used for?

This network will support devices that cannot authenticate via web-authentication or 802.1x (Network Access Control) protocols, typically gaming consoles and media devices without browsers.   We expect the majority of UB Gaming use to be in UB’s Residence Halls and Apartments, and occasionally elsewhere on campus.

Similar to registering a computer or router to the wired ResNet, use of UB Gaming requires registering the MAC address of the connected device to the Game Registration webpage.   Complete directions on how to use UB Gaming are available at https://www.buffalo.edu/ubit/gaming

We strongly recommend using UB Secure for all other Wi-Fi connections at UB.

Only gaming and media devices are allowed to register on the UB Gaming Wi-Fi network.

Using UB Gaming requires knowing the MAC address of the gaming or media device that is to be connected.   Consult with the device manufacturer for instructions on how to located the MAC address on your device.
