I am extremely pleased to welcome Information Security Officer Nadira Gangadhar Persad, CISA, CRISC. Nadira brings an impressive 18 years of IT, Information Security and Risk Management experience to the university.
As a member of my senior leadership team, Nadira will help chart the course of information security for the University at Buffalo and help us to realize the goals of UB 2020. Nadira will serve as the process owner of all activities related to the availability, integrity and confidentiality of electronic information in compliance with information security policies.
Nadira joins UB after 14 years with Praxair, Inc., a $12 billion Fortune 250 company. In her most recent role, she was responsible for conducting global IT risk assessments, developing IT audit plans based on risk, directing IT audits globally and working with business management across the globe to secure information assets and intellectual property. Preceding Praxair, Nadira held the role of Database Administrator at James Madison University.
Nadira is no stranger to UB. Following her undergraduate work in Business Administration, Computer Information and Systems Science at the University of the District of Columbia, Nadira obtained Master’s degrees in Information Systems and Business Administration from American University and UB respectively.
In her new role, Nadira will lead a team of experienced security professionals who work tirelessly to keep UB’s information safe. I would like to especially thank Jeff Murphy for his work as Interim Information Security Officer. I believe his knowledge and experience will make Nadira’s transition to UB seamless.
While I’m on the topic of Information Security, I would like to remind you to participate in our first annual Digital Challenge event. On Wednesday, October 1, 2014 from 12-6:20 p.m. in the Student Union Theater, “Your Digital Footprint” will inspire provocative discussions on online privacy with national experts. We are privileged to welcome these nationally-recognized speakers:
