Who is affected?

Students and faculty using Safari to log into UB Learns and watch Panopto recordings are seeing the “you used the back button” error because Safari disables cross-site tracking (a.k.a. third-party cookies) by default.

An error screen in a Panopto content window that says "You are seeing this page because you used the back button while browsing a secure web site or application.".

How do I fix this problem?

To view Panopto recordings in UB Learns, you may need to enable third-party cookies. While this is the default setting in Safari, any browser that prevents cookies may display this error.

The Panopto website has instructions for enabling cookies in all major browsers.

On Safari, you can enable cookies by clicking on Safari in the upper-left corner of the screen, then selecting Preferences, navigating to the Privacy table and unchecking Prevent cross-site tracking.
