The UB Women in STEM Cooperative is having its fourth annual summit on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Union. The summit recognizes women and the parts they play in the predominantly-male fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Benjamin Blanchet (UB student, Class of 2018) is an English major with an interest in journalism. After graduating from UB, he hopes to attend grad school and pursue a career writing about music and the arts. An Albany, NY native, Benjamin enjoys biking and reading in his spare time.

The event will feature an interview between SUNY Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson and Liesl Folks, Dean of UB’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Additionally, women at UB and around Western new York will discuss sustainability in a series of conversational sessions.

Students, faculty, professionals, and guests of UB—regardless of gender—are welcome to attend.

The UB Women in STEM Cooperative started in 2013 as a group of women from a number of STEM careers at UB. Today, in its fourth run, the summit's mission is to bridge the STEM gender gap through educational means and inclusiveness.

The group looks to make attendees aware of the presence of women in STEM by promoting interest in the field and by forming bonds between those in the field.

The Office of the VPCIO has served as a Summit supporter since the Cooperative was established.

For any interested students, staff, faculty or UB community members; pre-registration has started for the summit.
