Dan Hartman (UB Student, Class of 2016) was born in Rochester, NY. He transferred to UB after earning an Associate’s Degree at Monroe Community College and is working towards completing his Bachelor’s in Communication. Dan hopes to become a screenwriter someday. In his free time, he enjoys working out, eating cereal, and spending time with his friends.

UBIT is pleased to offer free, campus-supported Box accounts with unlimited storage to all current students, faculty, and staff as of March 29, 2016. Box is a file sync and share solution that offers access to files from any device.

UBbox will be available for all UB students on March 22 and all UB faculty and staff can log in as of March 29. UBbox offers the ability to store, share and access academic and university-related documents with anyone from anywhere.

Any active UB students, faculty and staff with existing Box.com accounts that use a Buffalo.edu email address will be automatically migrated to UBbox as of March 1, 2016 and can begin using the service the same day. Files that have already been uploaded to Box will remain in their current location.

Over 100 universities across the U.S. have made Box their file management service. Saira Hasnain, Associate CIO and Director of Enterprise Infrastructure Services, part of UB Information Technology, believes the transition to UBbox will simplify collaboration and grant faculty and students convenient access to files. According to Hasnain, “UBbox provides the capabilities of better managing information security. It brings UB to the modern era of file sync and share.”

Improving how the UB community manages files is one of many ways that UBIT strives to assure the goals of the university are achieved. Hasnain added that the addition of mobile accessibility will make file-sharing easier and more productive. “UBbox offers more flexibility for collaboration both inside and outside of the UB community.”

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to move their files out of UBfs ‘MyFiles’ to UBbox starting March 22 (students) or 29 (faculty/staff). Any files stored under ‘Collab’ or ‘Research’ should remain in UBfs at this time.

UBbox accounts will be automatically synced so UB staff, faculty and students can login using their UBITName and password.
