Dan Hartman (UB Student, Class of 2016) was born in Rochester, NY. He transferred to UB after earning an Associate’s Degree at Monroe Community College and is working towards completing his Bachelor’s in Communication. Dan hopes to become a screenwriter someday. In his free time, he enjoys working out, eating cereal, and spending time with his friends.

Since 2011, HUB Student Center has helped UB students manage their account information, pay university bills, and sign up for classes. The only catch was HUB only operated between 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. EST…until now.

The HUB is now available 24/7.  If you’re awake at 3 a.m. studying for a class that you no longer wish to be in, there’s no need to wait until 7 a.m. to drop it. There may not be large numbers of students and faculty regularly using the HUB at 4 a.m., but a 24/7 HUB is extremely helpful for anyone not living in the Eastern Time Zone, such as students in in UB’s Singapore program.

Convenient for everyone

Marisha Handzel, Assistant Director for HUB Support, was a proponent for HUB to be 24/7 because of the inconvenience it caused for those outside of the Eastern Time Zone and for restless students and faculty.

"Previously we had a number of faculty and students that were frustrated because they couldn’t access the system at all hours," Marisha stated. "Even if you weren’t making a transaction at 3 a.m., you still wouldn’t be able to simply view information."

"With this change, there is no longer a need to worry about time zones for students abroad and international students traveling," Marisha added. "In addition, faculty who wish to grade classes early in the morning are no longer confined by time."

Expanding the HUB’s availability to 24/7 is one of many ways that UB and UBIT works to perfect the experience at UB.  "If there’s something we can do to make the experience better for faculty, staff or students, we’re going to make every attempt to do it," Marisha said.
