Dan Hartman (UB Student, Class of 2016) was born in Rochester, NY. He transferred to UB after earning an Associate’s Degree at Monroe Community College and is working towards completing his Bachelor’s in Communication. Dan hopes to become a screenwriter someday. In his free time, he enjoys working out, eating cereal, and spending time with his friends.

To guarantee that UB students, faculty, and staff have convenient access to IT support regardless of location, UBIT has established a full-service UBIT Help Center on South Campus.

UBIT Help Center: Abbott assists students and faculty with managing their UBITNames, printing, identity assurance, and cybrary services.  The new Help Center is co-located with the Print Service Center in 155 Abbott near the new Whispers Café.

Two campuses, two help centers

While the UBIT Help Center: Abbott is not the first Help Center at UB, it is the first Help Center to open on South Campus. IT Customer Service Team Leaders Don Stein & Jessica Hinkal believe a South Campus Help Center will save students and faculty time from having to travel to North Campus for IT services.

"A lot of people on South Campus end up having to come to North Campus for help," Jessica said. "Abbott is a very convenient spot to be on South."

Don added, "We’re doing this because we value our students and it makes their lives easier."

Get immediate IT service

Students and faculty may approach the Help Center and speak to a UBIT staff member to assist with technical problems the same as they would at the Lockwood location. Jessica explains that the quick and interpersonal support at the Lockwood Help Center is a precedent for how the South Campus location will work.

"We provide customer interaction where people can come to the walk-up counter and get instant access to our services, or resolutions to their problems. We’re looking to expand the walk-up functionality on South Campus."

The idea of a second UBIT Help Center emerged from a student survey aimed to enhance the experience on South Campus.  The renovations are a component of UB’s 2020 plan to transform UB's original, historic buildings into modern teaching and learning centers.

"Students wanted more services on South Campus, including their own Help Center," Don stated. The UBIT Help Center: Abbott is just one of many enhancements coming to South Campus.

UBIT Help Center: Abbott is open 8 a.m to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday.
