Greg Fleming, Client Technologies Technician, Enterprise
There aren’t many schools and departments that Greg
Fleming hasn’t helped in his 13 years with UB. A Client
Technologies Technician with Enterprise Infrastructure Services,
Greg provides server and desktop support for both faculty and
staff. While based on North Campus, he often works with customers
on South Campus and Downtown.
“We try to keep faculty, staff, and students educated on
the tools and resources they need to excel,” Greg said.
“We protect them from having their work compromised using the
latest anti-virus programs and tools, and are often able to stop
viruses before they start as a result.”
Greg graduated from Buffalo State College with a degree in
Computer Information Systems. After traveling up and down the East
Coast with another company for about a year, he realized he wanted
to stay in Buffalo full-time and joined UB’s staff. “I
always wanted to work in an IT environment with an educational
institution,” said Greg.
Away from UB, Greg is a dedicated father of two and enjoys
spending time with his daughters. “One of my daughters is
about to get her green belt in karate and the other enjoys soccer
and playing the flute.”
His home life has directly impacted how Greg is able to assist
faculty and staff. “My children have taught me the importance
of patience and keeping an open mind. It’s very satisfying
being able to help someone who’s frustrated, and hopefully
teach them something at the same time,” Greg continued.
“Using my skills to fix problems while also easing
someone’s stress is very rewarding.”
Another rewarding aspect of Greg’s job is the need to
constantly learn and stay up-to-date on the latest technologies.
“I’ve learned more through hands-on experience at UB
than I could’ve ever from a textbook or a training
room,” he added.
When asked about the future, Greg is clearly very happy where he
is. “I like to concentrate at the job at hand,” he
stated. “I work with a great group of administrators who give
100% every day. I’m grateful for management’s
flexibility should an emergency arise with my kids. My children are
most important and there’s a great work/life balance here at
UB. It’s very much a work family.”
