Handling Legal Requests

Since a significant amount of crime and fraud occurs online, you may receive a request for information from outside UB.

It is UB's policy to require a subpoena, search warrant or other court order for all information released to law enforcement agencies.

If the inquiry involves a subpoena or court order, direct them to call Associate Counsel Jim Jarvis in the Office of General Counsel at 716-645-4468.

If it’s regarding a DMCA or copyright violation notice, contact ub-dmca-designated-agent@buffalo.edu.

If the inquiry doesn’t involve a legal document, and is in regards to a student or access to University data, contact the Information Security Office at sec-office@buffalo.edu or 716-645-6997.

If this request involves an immediate threat to health and safety, contact the University Police at 716-645-2222.
