Removing Symantec Endpoint Protection

You must remove Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP).

Individual Machines


  1. Go to the Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs.
  2. Select Symantec Endpoint Protection and choose Uninstall.
  3. Reboot if prompted.
  4. Go to the Windows Security Center to verify Windows Defender is running.  


  1. Launch Symantec Endpoint Protection.
  2. From the Symantec Endpoint menu, choose Uninstall Symantec Endpoint.
  3. Replace with a third-party product for personal machines, or with Microsoft Defender ATP for UB-owned Macs.

Mass Deployment

Windows using SCCM

Deploy the Application "UBIT Symantec Endpoint Full Removal" as an Uninstall action. This runs a Powershell script provided by Symantec that completely removes any installed versions of SEP. 

Windows Machines using Bomgar / BeyondTrust

  1. Create a Remote Support or "Jump" session with an end user.
  2. From the Command Shell tab, start a Command Shell.
  3. Go to the Canned Script menu in the upper right corner.
  4. Choose Software > Uninstall SEP
Software > Uninstall SEP.

Mac using Jamf

  1. Create a new Policy.
  2. Include the Package payload and add the Package "UBIT Uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection".
