College and School Priorities

A key objective of the VPCIO has been to enhance the interactions between colleges/schools and Central IT to better align IT priority initiatives. To this end, a council of several key Distributed IT leaders discussed these priorities necessary to improve overall UBIT communications.

The following are a listing of key priorities defined by this council for the upcoming fiscal year:

  • Wired Network Upgrade – Need upgrade to ensure functionality of nearly all IT-based activities. Network infrastructure maintenance and continuous upgrades should be routinely funded.
  • Cloud Storage – Assertively rollout UBbox when it is fully capable, including drive mapping and collab space. Education campus community about best practices and the advantages and security of UBbox. Make available detailed instructional materials on the UBIT website. Support UBbox via the UBIT Help Center.
  • Phone/Video Conferencing – Formally establish, announce and promote Skype for Business as the University standard. Make available detailed instructional materials on the UBIT website.
  • Digital Scanning/Document Management – Formally establish, announce and promote a digital scanning/document management system as the University standard (perhaps the system adopted by Admissions and HR). Make available detailed instructional materials on the UBIT website. Support the adopted standard via the UBIT Help Center.
  • Security – Develop broad security standards and provide tools for people to deploy those standards on University networks, servers, computers, printers and any other network-connected devices supported by the VPCIO's area, Distributed IT, or researchers. Educate all IT staff and the broader campus community about the standards and about best practices.
