Network and Communications Systems Student Assistant

VPCIO Network and Communications Systems (NCS) is looking for students to assist with customer order requests and troubleshooting for both telephone and network services.

Responsibilities

VoIP Phone/Lines

  • Provision new lines and deploy/configure sets
  • Move/add/change existing phone lines
  • Disconnect services
  • Replace failed hardware
  • Troubleshooting

Network Requests (wired and wireless)

  • Configure new network ports for end users
  • Install new switch equipment
  • Identify cabling requests/needs
  • Access point repairs/replacements
  • Analyze wiring
  • Troubleshooting

Requirements

  • Students must:
    • Be in good academic standing
    • Be able to work 15-20 hours per week while classes are in session, up to a maximum of 29 hours per week
    • Be able to lift up to 30 pounds
    • Be able to distinguish between different colors of wiring
    • Possess a valid driver’s license which permits operation of a motor vehicle in NY State
  • Students preferred who have 2+ years remaining before graduation
  • Knowledge of networking concepts and/or phone systems a plus
  • Self-motivated students are needed that can work well with little to no supervision
  • Communications skills are key, as you will often be dealing with customers, many of whom are non-technical
  • All necessary tools, equipment and training will be provided

Hours

Students may work in blocks of time between 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m, Monday - Friday, with occasional early morning work after sufficient training.
