Transformation through IT Innovation

Read more about IT projects that are helping transform the way UB operates, leading to transformational improvements in efficiency and productivity as well as new capabilities to better serve the UB community.

  • Business Systems Transformation: For more than twenty years UB has relied on an enterprise mainframe computer running legacy applications to support many of UB’s core business operations. While this system has served UB well, it is outdated and CIT is undertaking a major transformation of its business systems IT infrastructure, leveraging cloud services and SUNY services wherever practical. The transformation benefits UB by lowering the expensive maintenance costs of operating the mainframe in terms of staff time and utility expenses, and by moving to more robust and modern systems that offer substantial additional capability.
  • Electronic Document Management: University administrative operations in the past relied on paper for applications, purchasing, reports and a myriad of other information purposes. Today’s demands for immediate access, sharing of information, and environmentally friendly practices dictate electronic document management strategies – and the process redesign that accompanies these strategies. These practices have already been proven highly effective in Financial Aid and the School of Dentistry. Offices such as Admissions and Sponsored Programs are likely candidates for this technology given their high reliance on paper- based processes. Eventually, electronic document technology will be made available to the entire campus.
