Dr.Thomas Furlani serves as Interim Associate Vice President for
Information Technology (CIO) and as Director of the University at
Buffalo's Center for Computational Research (CCR), a leading
academic supercomputing and visualization facility.
As Interim Associate Vice President for Information Technology,
Dr. Furlani serves as Chief Information Officer for UB.
As Director of CCR, Dr. Furlani, whose Ph.D. is in Computational Chemistry, manages the day-to-day operations of the center as well as oversees its research activities, especially in the Life Sciences.
A National Science Foundation Pre-doctoral Fellow, Dr. Furlani has more than 20 years experience in research computing and visualization, including high-performance computing, scientific visualization, computational chemistry, and grid computing.
Dr. Furlani has also served as Associate Director of the CCR
(1998-2006) and Research Associate Professor in UB's Department of
Chemistry (1994-present). He previously worked at Calspan
Advanced Technology Center as Principal Chemist at (1990-1994) and
Senior Chemist (1985-1990).
Dr. Furlani received his PhD in Physical (Theoretical) Chemistry in 1985 from the University at Buffalo; He received his BS in Chemistry in 1980 from the State University of New York College at Buffalo.
