Edmond J. Gicewicz

In July 1997, Governor George Pataki appointed Edmond J. Gicewicz to the UB Council. Mr. Gicewicz holds two University at Buffalo degrees: a bachelor's degree, conferred in 1952, and the M.D., conferred in 1956.

Now retired from active practice, Dr. Gicewicz has held appointments as an associate professor of clinical surgery and an assistant professor of clinical orthopedics in the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. He served as the founder and first medical director of the University's Sports Medicine Institute, and served as the UB team physician for 27 years. He has been the medical director and physician-in-attendance-for a variety of amateur athletic competitions, including the World University Games. In 1991, he was named Team Physician of the Year by the New York State Medical Society.

While at UB, Dr. Gicewicz served as captain of the varsity football, basketball, and baseball teams, and was named Little All American in football. He is a member of the UB Athletics Hall of Fame and the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame, and remains active in the local sports community. 

Dr. Gicewicz is a past president of the UB Alumni Association and the University of Buffalo Medical Alumni, as well as a past president of the Williamsville School District Board of Education, Erie County Medical Society, and New York State Medical Political Action Committee.  A Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, Dr. Gicewicz has also served on numerous boards such as the Medical Society of the State of New York, American Board of Surgery, and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Gicewicz and his wife Constance have five children. They live in Getzville, New York.
