In this session, department chairs will explore a variety of methods for evaluating teaching effectiveness in their departments.

Learning objectives

  • Describe the value and limitations of course evaluations in evaluating teaching
  • Identify methods for using instructor self-reports and reflections as evidence of teaching effectiveness
  • Establish a process for peer review of teaching through structured observations
  • Utilize a teaching portfolio to assess teaching effectiveness

  • Chairs or other administrators who supervise teaching faculty or part-time instructors
