Pilot of Digital Tutorials to Increase Incoming Student Readiness for General Chemistry

Abstract

The Department of Chemistry is developing a digital primer course to increase readiness for incoming students taking General Chemistry (CHE101 or CHE107). The overall goal of this work is to increase success in first semester chemistry and contribute to promoting increased retention in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), a recognized national need.

The full digital course, still in development, will be offered to General Chemistry registrants the summer prior to their first semester at UB. The most significant component of the digital course is a set of online tutorials providing focused instruction for incoming students. The fund will support graduate students to assist with pilot testing the online tutorial materials to two hundred incoming students during the summer of 2015.
