A Yearly Tradition

Since 1991, UB has made this memorial event an enduring community tradition. The 5km race is held in memory of Linda Yalem, a UB student who was murdered in September 1990, while jogging on a bike path near the North Campus. The race promotes personal-safety awareness and supports campus-based crime-prevention programs, including UB's Anti-Rape Task Force, Take Back the Night, and Violence Against Women Awareness Week. At the time of her death, Yalem was training for the New York City Marathon.
One of the most popular races in Western New York, the track and field-certified course spans UB's North Campus.
